WhenAfter she's left for the day, on a morning when nothing special happened. The second sentence does the work: it tells her there's nothing behind the first.
Most of them take something off her brake. A couple press the gas, lightly. The details are placeholders: swap in your real coffee place, your real mother-in-law, your real kiss. A text that sounds like a greeting card does more harm than no text.
WhenEarly in the week, before she has planned Wednesday in her head. Then do all of it, including the parts nobody sees.
WhenThe same day she dealt with something boring. Name the actual thing. "Thanks for everything" doesn't count.
WhenAny afternoon. In Gottman's terms it's a bid: small, easy, no reply required. Use a real place from your own history.
WhenOn a day you know is heavy for her. If she writes back a paragraph, answer the paragraph. Don't fix anything unless she asks.
WhenOn a weeknight when she's clearly running on empty. And don't show up at 9:30 to collect, or the whole evening turns into a trade.
WhenThe day after she made you laugh. Swap in your real moment. A callback tells her you were paying attention.
WhenOnly after you've already set it up. If she has to arrange the babysitter, it's one more task on her list.
WhenThe day after a kiss that didn't lead anywhere, and only if it happened. This is the flirty one. It still doesn't ask for anything.
WhenAt the end of the week. Not at 11 p.m., and not instead of the talk: the text only books the time.
Three rules
- Don't send all ten.Four or five that sound like you beat ten that sound like a book.
- No second text.If she doesn't answer, leave it. Only the last one needs a reply, and you can ask that one in person.
- Nothing after 10 p.m.Late at night, any text reads like a request, whatever it says.
